    The Petersburg High School girls basketball team are the 2015-16 2A Alaska State Champions. A 3-0 record in last weekend's tournament with wins over Dillingham, Nenana, and Bristol Bay clinched the Lady Vikings' first state title in program history.     The Petersburg High School boys’ basketball team is the 2A Alaska State Runner-Up for 2015-16. Early round victories over Bristol Bay (47-26) and Unalakleet (56-39) in last weekend’s state tournament set up a showdown with the Unalaska Raiders for the championship at Anchorage’s Alaska Airlines Center.     The Petersburg boys' basketball team went 1-2 and claimed sixth place at the annual Clarke Cochrane Christmas Classic in Ketchikan, however valuable experience was gained.     The Lady Viking's speed was a prominent reason for their three consecutive victories against Wrangell, Haines, and Cordova en route to a first-place tournament finish. The Vikings began Thursday's game with Wrangell on a 16-0 run and went into halftime leading 23-5, with many buckets coming in transition.     The Petersburg boys' basketball team bounced back after an early-tournament defeat to win their next two games and claim second place at the Little Norway Tournament.
