The Petersburg Indian Association Tribal Board received reports from various departments outlining the programs they are involved in and what is happening within the organization during its regular meeting Monday evening. Petersburg Borough Manager Steve Giesbrecht reported that the bids for the North Harbor project closed March 5 during the regular meeting of the Petersburg Borough Assembly Monday afternoon. "There seems to be quite a bit of interest in this project," Giesbrecht said. "We hope that means we will have competitive bids." Mild winter weather has allowed Rock-n-Road Construction to begin the rebuild of the Blaquiere Point boat launch ramp at Mile 30 Mitkof Highway on the southeast side of Mitkof Island. The project will include the rebuild and extension of the launch ramp, construction of a level parking pad for 19 vehicles with trailers and a new vault toilet. Not going to mend fences To the Editor: Well, dip me in honey and throw me to the bears. For once I agree with Dana Thynes. In last week's Pilot, she took the newly elected borough assembly to the woodshed for not appointing Bob Lynn to one of the vacant assembly positions. Her point was that Mr. Lynn was a good candidate, but the elected assembly members rejected him in favor of appointments intended to preserve a uniform perspective on the assembly. Robin Verline Lane, 52, passed away February 14, 2013 after a short battle with cancer in Anchorage. Robin was born on September 12, 1960 to Roger and Judy Johnson at Fort Lewis/McChord Air Force Base. Robin also lived in Kemerer, Wyo. and Mountain Home, Idaho before graduating from Meridian High School of Idaho in 1978. Robin worked in Student Services at Boise State University for 14 years.
