March 2, 1983 – The Crystal Lake Hatchery staff has a proposal before the Alaska Legislature to double their rearing capacity. Jim Billi, hatchery manager, told a large crowd of fishermen and interested townspeople at the February 18 meeting at the Counciil Chambers that it would only take a capital outlay of $3,000,000 and an additional $75,000 operating expenditure to do this. The Petersburg Parks and Recreation Department began the very first Losing Big Petersburg competition just a little over a month ago with 10 contestants. The Petersburg Vikings traveled to Sitka last week for the Region V Tournament and that is where the season for the Vikings ended. "We started out play against Mt. The Petersburg Lady Vikings traveled to Sitka to compete in the Region V Tournament and came home with a positive attitude for next year. JUNEAU (AP) — A Mexican woman has admitted being in the country illegally. The Juneau Empire reports that 44-year-old Yolanda Perez-Orozco pleaded guilty on Friday. She had been deported from the United States twice before but was caught living and working in Southeast Alaska. Perez-Orozco worked as a restaurant manager in Petersburg. Her attorney says a local police officer suspected she wasn't a citizen and investigated. James D. “Jake” Abbott, age 87 died February 22, 2013 in Wabasha, Minn. He was born November 20, 1925 in Green Isle, Minn., the son of Howard and Mary (Egan) Abbott.
