Karen Sue Flym, 68, died March 12, 2013 at her home in Homer, Alaska. Flyum was born September 18, 1944 in Tacoma, Wash. She graduated from high school and continued her education by attending beauty school. She has lived in various places around Alaska including Cordova, Valdez, Petersburg and Anchorage. Petersburg Borough Parks and Recreation demolished shelter #2 at Sandy Beach Park last weekend. The shelter was rebuilt in the 1970s and rotted roof beams and decay in other portions of the shelter justified the razing of the structure, according to Parks and Rec Director Donnie Hayes. Hayes said the shelter rebuild target completion date is this fall, but added work will be accomplished as staff is able to schedule work during the busy summer.
