    Jeff M. Erwin, 65 died on May 11, 2019 from polycystic kidney disease and pneumonia: in Salem, Oregon. He was born on August 8, 1953 in Coos Bay, Oregon to Charles and Maxine Erwin. He was a 27 year resident of Alaska, He was a millwright, logger, truck driver, commercial fisherman, dog musher and retired from Trading Union Ace Hardware after 20 years.     One time the Odin came across a dead or almost dead killer whale so the crew towed it into Red Bluff Bay. At high tide they towed it further into the bay and using old purse line, they pulled it as high into the drift logs as possible and tied it down good. In later years this was their net needle factory. There were still some scattered bones around when I was on board later. The old timers would make net needles out of the rib bones. They said these bones were harder and not at all porous...
