    The local ballot is now set for the Petersburg elections. There is no contest for the City Council, for the second year in a row with one council seat with no candidates. Petersburg Mayor Al Dwyer states he will not seek office again and may resign after this October's city election. Dwyer is half-way through his third two-year term as mayor.   • LBC finalizes borough decision

    Members of the Local Boundary Commission finalized their decision that Petersburg's Borough plan meets state requirements. Voters in the proposed borough area will have the final say.     Petersburg hosted the 2012 Region V Jamboree for the first time.     The Petersburg men's and women's cross-country teams put their running shoes to the road in Sitka for the first meet of the season Friday, Aug. 24. The women placed seventh overall out of nine teams beating Craig and Sitka and the men placed last in 10th place.     Viking men and women swimmers traveled to Ketchikan for the first meet of the season Friday and Saturday, Aug. 24 and 25. These competitors came home with several top and second place wins for the two day meet.     A new state prosecutor has found a place in Petersburg. The Department of Law has assigned Assistant District Attorney Nick Polasky, who works out of Juneau to this position. Polasky will also cover Kake, as well as statewide extradition cases. Polasky was formerly one of the three prosecutors in Ketchikan.     Salmon season is winding down and it’s still a guess if the statewide catch will reach the 132 million fish forecast.
