    Just after 7 p.m. Thursday, Petersburg Police responded to a report of a suicidal individual armed with an assault weapon on Frederick Point North.     After only 2-1/2 months on the job, Bruce Jones, Petersburg Indian Association Tribal Administrator was fired by a 4-2 vote of the tribal council on Tuesday night. Jones was hired on August 1 of this year. Jones did not give a reason for his firing and referred questions to his attorney John Hoag.     On a beautiful Saturday, the Humpy 500 was held indoors at the Community Gym. The day continued as a success even if not in its normal venue, normally down PFI hill. Teams went head to head with carts built by the teams to represent sea life. Six teams competed in a cart race, and costume and cart design contests.     Once again, incorrect information was cited to justify opposition to the formation of a Petersburg Borough. Tom Reinarts wrote in a published letter that Wrangell’s borough government had added 29 employees since its formation. In two letters in this week’s Pilot, both Reinarts and Wrangell’s Borough Manager correct the information stated in last week’s letters column.     Volunteer firefighters and EMS responded to a report of smoke coming from the eaves of a home owned by Beulah Luhr at 1.8 Mile Mitkof Highway on Sunday night. Smoke alarms were also activated inside the structure. According to department spokesperson Dave Berg, the fire was called in by Janet Seaman who was walking by the home at about 6 p.m. Sunday.     The Petersburg City Council met Friday to finalize the results of Tuesday’s municipal election. The question to raise the sales tax cap in Petersburg from $1,200 to $1,700, failed by six votes. Petersburg Mayor Al Dwyer and council tallied the votes of three questioned ballots and two absentee ballots that were received through the mail. These votes did not change the outcome on proposition two.     Rates for services and storage at Petersburg Community Cold Storage will increase as of Nov. 1.     Petersburg Medical Center Board has chosen Bettisworth North Architects and Planners, Inc. to design the remodel project for the long-term care facility.
