Richard Bert Hansen, 85, passed away June 20, 2016 in Palm Springs, California. He was born in Cordova, Alaska on December 8, 1930 to Grace and William Hansen. Richard grew up in Cordova and Juneau, Alaska loving sports, particularly basketball. His Juneau High School basketball team won the state championship in 1950. In his 20s his city league basketball team won the Gold Medal Championship and he was named MVP. WRANGELL — The high school is getting ready to sponsor a bit of culture, as it comes Wrangell’s turn to host this year’s Southeast Alaska Regional Artfest next week. Contracts and budgets were a big part of discussion during Tuesday evening’s school board meeting. The school board reached an agreement with the Associated Teachers of Petersburg, approving a 1 percent salary increase for teachers in 2015-16. Negotiations for years two and three will continue. Board members also touched on Superintendent Erica Kludt-Painter’s contract for 2015-16. It will be a 260-day contract for $120,000. January An elderly man was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street at Gjoa and Nordic Drive. The gentleman was crossing inside the crosswalk and was grazed by the vehicle’s mirror as it passed.
