Heavy rains last Friday and Saturday, August 28 and 29, broke precipitation records for those respective days, according to National Weather Service data. The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) canceled the service of the ferry Chenega from Juneau to Petersburg on Tuesday, due to severe weather including high winds. DOT spokesman Jeremy Woodrow said the conditions hitting Stephens Passage resembled that of fall storms.
