The Petersburg men's and women's cross-country teams put their running shoes to the road in Sitka for the first meet of the season Friday, Aug. 24. The women placed seventh overall out of nine teams beating Craig and Sitka and the men placed last in 10th place. The two-day Track and Field State Championship was held last weekend at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks, with Petersburg athletes scoring points in four events. Petersburg Middle School girl's basketball team had an opportunity to participate in the Mike Jackson HoopTime Tournament March 23 to 26 in Juneau.Thirty-two teams played 98 games during the tournament. Last weekend Petersburg hosted their annual spring wrestling tournament with six visiting teams and over 150 wrestlers. Visiting teams included Craig, Wrangell, Ketchikan, Sitka, Juneau, Douglas, and Kake. There were over 750 matches, and these young grapplers gained some valuable wrestling experience.
