    After a weekend of games in Juneau where they lost one and won the next two, the Vikings host the Region V Baseball Championship. Tournament games began on Wednesday and will continue through Saturday. Last week the Vikings faced Thunder Mountain’s varsity team in Juneau. Taylor Pullar pitched the game for Petersburg.     The track and field regional championship was hosted by Thunder Mountain in Juneau last weekend and the competition was fierce, almost as fierce as the weather. “It was incredibly nasty out. We thought about canceling the first day because of the high winds, the weather, the rain, but we didn’t have time to do a two-day meet in one day, so we pressed on,” said Vikings Head Coach Brad Taylor.     Vikings baseball swept a home series against Craig, Wrangell, and Juneau JV last weekend. The first game, against the Juneau JV on Thursday, was a six to five Vikings win. Colby Bell started on the mound for Petersburg through the first four innings and gave up only three hits and four runs, and struck out eight Juneau batters.     Viking baseball went on the road last weekend. skipping the planned stop in Wrangell because of a flu outbreak on the Wolves team, and heading straight to Ketchikan for three games.     The track and field team traveled to Juneau last weekend to face off against some tough 4A schools as well at Sitka and Craig, perennial powerhouses in the 3A division.     Viking Swim Club (VSC) ended its season ended last weekend at the Junior Olympics meet in Anchorage. Swim clubs from across Alaska send their top swimmers to compete in this championship.     Petersburg Middle School girl's basketball team had an opportunity to participate in the Mike Jackson HoopTime Tournament March 23 to 26 in Juneau.Thirty-two teams played 98 games during the tournament.     The Lady Vikings ended their season in Ketchikan last week at the Region V 3A/4A Tournament. Petersburg’s girls started tournament play on Wednesday with a game against Craig.     Last weekend Petersburg hosted their annual spring wrestling tournament with six visiting teams and over 150 wrestlers. Visiting teams included Craig, Wrangell, Ketchikan, Sitka, Juneau, Douglas, and Kake. There were over 750 matches, and these young grapplers gained some valuable wrestling experience.     The Lady Panthers of Craig came to town to face the Lady Vikings last weekend in the girls’ last home series of the season.     The Vikings had an outstanding weekend of boys basketball in Wrangell. Friday’s varsity game started with a first half where neither team really controlled the tempo of the game.
