First Friday event big success

Petersburg's First Friday Meet the Artist event was a big success Friday evening. Even the rain could not keep Petersburg art lovers at home.

Paintings by Beth Flor were displayed for the public at Miele Gallery and Framing, and everyone had a chance to talk with the artist.

“I like to paint places I have been,” Flor said. “And I take photos of the subjects sometimes to capture the light at the moment.”

Don Cornelius was on hand at Wild Celery Framing Studio and Eclectic Gallery with several of his paintings. Cornelius didn't pick up a paintbrush until his second year at Middlebury College, but now paints using a collection of photographs, some of which are taken by his wife, Karen.

Timeless Treasures played host to Barry and Kathy Bracken. Barry had several of his photographs displayed along with his collection of Kaleidoscope Cards and Kathy arranged many of her Jewels for Jeans creations for the customers and visitors. The Brackens use the sea and rainforest for inspiration of their cards and jewelry.

The Fabric Basket featured patterns from Alaskan artists Cindy Shakes, Lisa Moore and Tommy Joseph, Chris Davison and Mary Stenros. Savann Guthrie, owner, is featuring ravens this month and the beautiful raven inspired quilts can be viewed hanging in the store. “Each of these quilt hangings and squares have been made by the employees here,” Guthrie said.
