Engineering plans show that the North Harbor project is projected to cost $2.2 million more than the $7 million that has been budgeted. Petersburg City Manager Stephen Giesbrecht stated this oversight in his report to the City Council Monday evening.
“Rough estimates at this time are a project around $9.2 million,” Giesbrecht stated. “We are $2.2 million over budget and we will be meeting with the engineer in the near future to see how we can get back within budget.”
PND Engineering also reviewed the Mitigation application and permitting documents for the Commercial Drive-Down Dock facility.
“This process will take approximately six months for the Corps of Engineers to review and give the okay to apply for the Drive-Down Dock Facility Fill permit,” Giesbrecht said. “These will be applicable for both phases and all of the work that goes into the facility.”
Giesbrecht also reported the Petersburg Road Improvement, [main street rebuild project] is out to bid and the opening for these bids were scheduled for July 19.
“This project funding received a healthy shot in the arm from the State,” Giesbrecht stated. “Additional funds were allocated to the project in the amount of $750,000.”
Amounts up to $1.1 million are possible if change orders dictate the need for additional funds.
“This should fund all of the base bid and the alternate items on the project,” Giesbrecht said. “The project is still slated to begin in September of this year.”
