On a beautiful Saturday, the Humpy 500 was held indoors at the Community Gym. The day continued as a success even if not in its normal venue, normally down PFI hill.
Teams went head to head with carts built by the teams to represent sea life. Six teams competed in a cart race, and costume and cart design contests.
In the race, the Super Sea Urchins cart with Trinity Davis as team captain, won first place; the Clamorous Clams with Allies Davis as captain came in second; and the Hammerhead Torpedo with Andrew Weller as captain finished third.
The choice for the costume contest was harder, for all of the teams were dressed for the occasion. The Prince of PFI and Ocean Beauties with Lucas Dormer as captain won the Best of Show – Costume contest with the Super Sea Urchins bringing in second place and the Blue Fin Tuna, Althea Malone captain, coming in third.
The Despicable Shark, Julia Murph captain, won Best of Show for the design category with Clamorous Clams coming in second and the Hammerhead Torpedo, Andrew Weller captain, finishing third.
The canned salmon classic winner was also announced during this event with Mary Ann Rainey winning the first place prize of $2,000 with a guess of 8,243,186 only 62 cans under the official number of 8,243,248 cans packed in 2012. Susan Shay came in second place with a guess of 8,244,502 for the $1,000 prize only 1,254 over the official count.
