The Petersburg Borough Assembly has decided on three finalists for the Police Chief position as well as an alternate.
The three candidates have been invited to Petersburg April 26 to April 30. Kelly Swihart, current Chief of Police in Hoonah, BJ Wilkinson, current Chief of Police in Litchfield, Ill. and Robert Kappelman, Captain of Field Services and Assistant Chief in Two Rivers, Wis. have confirmed their arrival and a very tight schedule has been planned for their time in Petersburg.
The finalists will begin with a basic tour of the community when they arrive Friday and will have an orientation with Richard Fursman of Brimeyer Fursman, the consulting company hired to search for candidates for the position.
Saturday will include a boat tour to the LeConte Glacier, a tour “out the road” and dinner with Petersburg Borough Assembly Members.
The finalists will have two receptions Sunday, April 28 at the Sons of Norway Hall. The first reception will be at 3 p.m. for police officers and invited guests. Another reception
will be held at 4 p.m. for the
community.
“I really want this time to be for the finalists to have the opportunity to meet the officers and others they will be working with,” Petersburg Borough Manager Steve Giesbrecht said. “This will be the perfect time for them to get a feel for their colleagues.”
Interviews for the finalists will take place Monday, April 29 and will include a board interview with Fursman, Bruce Westre, Petersburg Borough Clerk Kathy O'Rear, Petersburg Police Chief Jim Agner, Petersburg Borough Assembly Member Cindi Lagoudakis and Giesbrecht followed by an interview with Manager Giesbrecht individually.
If a decision is made to hire one of the candidates, a special meeting will be held to ratify the decision.
