Equipment failure causes power outage Tuesday morning

Petersburg experienced a power outage Tuesday morning that lasted approximately 45 minutes and the cause was equipment failure.

“We had a problem with the new generator at Scow Bay,” Petersburg Municipal Power and Light Superintendent Joe Nelson stated. “One of the components in the high pressure fuel system failed.”

The generator, which came from Germany, has not been installed for a long period of time and is still under warranty.

“We have contacted the factory,” Nelson stated. “A maintenance crew from Anchorage is coming to fix the problem.”
