Obituary: Carl J. Omdahl, 66

Carl J. Omdahl, 66, was welcomed into heaven May 24, 2013 after battling gastric cancer for 10 months. He died at home, surrounded be his loving family.

Carl Jr. was born on October 18, 1946 in Petersburg, Alaska to Carl Sr. (a pilot) and Norma Omdahl (a school teacher). At age 11, following his father's death, he moved with his mom and sister to King's Garden in North Seattle, Wash. where his mother got a job teaching school. Carl attended King's Schools and graduated in 1964. He then joined the Army and volunteered for Vietnam. He served our country for three years, one year in Korea and one year in Vietnam.

Upon leaving the army, he got his pilot's license for flying both fixed wing and helicopters. He got his helicopter mechanic's license and began working at the Bellingham Airport.

He moved to Salem, Ore. when he was offered the job as chief helicopter mechanic and pilot for Pacific Helicopters in Brooks, Ore. He later worked for Mid-Valley Helicopters in Jefferson, Ore.

In Salem, Carl met his wife Lorna and they were married for 36 years during which time they took many trips and several cruises.

Carl was an entrepreneur and always had a side business. His interest in sports cards led him to eventually partner in business with Michael Patton. They started ABC Northwest, which grew into a large, profitable company. He quit flying helicopters when his business took off.

Carl was a member of the Elks club and attended Salem Heights Church.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Norma Omdahl.

He is survived by his wife, Lorna, daughter; Karen Blauvelt, grandchildren; Alyssa and Joel, sister; Judi (Mark) Nordtvedt, Petersburg relatives; Wayne, Lenore, Sig and Audi Mathisen and friends; Marj and Tom Oines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Salem Heights Church to help assist their mission work; 375 Madrona Ave. S. Salem, OR 97302.
