Unusually bright, sustained auroras have filled the northern night skies for the past several weeks, caused by a large coronal hole which has opened up in the ever changing solar corona. Highly active auroras are anticipated to continue while this magnetic phenomena sprays highly-energetic particles into the solar system. This image captured Monday night's auroras reflecting in Hammer Slough around high tide.
