June 22, 1917 – Olaf Arness closed the deal for the purchase of the P.C. & N.P. Co. sawmill, which has been idle for several years, but will be in operation again next spring. The mill is the biggest and best in Alaska. The capacity with present equipment is 85,000 feet per day, but this can be doubled at comparatively small cost, as there is already sufficient power. The property is said to have cost orginally considerably over $100,000.
