Ridge Contracting workers loaded 729 -1.5 yard bags of contaminated soil aboard the barge Alder O last weekend at the bulkhead below the old White Alice communications site in Duncan Canal. Soil was removed from the Air Force owned property about 2,400 feet up a mountain on Kupreanof Island, and taken down a 6-mile road to the beach. The soil will be transferred to an AML barge in Ketchikan and will be shipped to an Oregon disposal facility.
