The pickled herring contest was Wednesday evening at the Sons of Norway, where two cooks owned the top spot twice. Pictured here, from left, is Kurt Kvernvik, whose first place Christmas shrimp won pickled seafood category; Jim Edgars, who won the smoked seafood category and smoked salmon categories after serving smoked black cod tips and smoked winter king salmon; and Glo Wollen, who took home the pickled herring trophy after a tie with herself. Wollen's cognac herring and dill herring tied for the top, coveted spot of the night. Wollen also took home the people's choice award.
