The United States Department of Commerce has allocated $56 million for the 2016 pink salmon disaster, according to borough D.C. lobbyist Sebastian O’Kelly.
Congress appropriated $200 million for 12 fishery disasters. $56 million of that money, the largest amount set aside for a fishery disaster, will go to those affected by the pink salmon disaster. The funds will be split up between fishermen, processors and
municipalities affected by the disaster, as well as research to determine the pink salmon decline.
