Students at Stedman Elementary School lined up to shake hands with local veterans at the end of Monday's Veterans Day assembly in the gym. The assembly began with the United States Color Guard presenting the American and Alaskan flags, and the girls scouts presenting the flags of the United States Armed Forces. The Petersburg High School band performed songs throughout the assembly, and the elementary students sang, America the Beautiful. Students from the elementary school, middle school and high school read letters of thanks and appreciation to the veterans, with several freshmen students reading the Gettysburg Address. One student addressed the veterans and those present at the assembly and said, "Without the veterans, we wouldn't have the privileges we have today."
