Secondhand smoke

To the Editor:

Since 1964, nearly 3 million nonsmokers have died from secondhand smoke. Most exposure to secondhand smoke happens in the home. In apartment buildings, if one person smokes, everyone smokes. What is the best way to eliminate the risk of secondhand smoke?

Eliminate the smoke. As a housing manager/landlord, passing a smokefree policy could achieve this goal. As a concerned tenant, express your concerns to your

housing manager/landlord, and encourage them to go smokefree. And remember, smoke floats. Having a

designated smoking area away from windows, doors, and air...
