Two cases of COVID-19 have been identified within the same household Tuesday evening, according to a joint press release from the Petersburg Borough and Petersburg Medical Center.
One of the two individuals was showing symptoms of the virus and called PMC's COVID-19 hotline, according to the press release. The individual that was asymptomatic has underlying health issues and was also tested for COVID-19 out of caution, according to the press release. Both individuals tested positive on Oct. 27 and are in quarantine.
Earlier on Tuesday, a fifth grader at Rae C. Stedman Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19, which prompted a district wide school closure. One of the child's parents also tested positive for the virus. According to the press release, the two positive cases identified Tuesday evening are unrelated to the positive case at the elementary school.
The two most recent positive cases of COVID-19 are thought to be related to a recent trip to Anchorage, according to the press release. The two individuals had been somewhat isolated prior to the positive test results, though the risk of COVID-19 spreading throughout the community is rising as more positive cases are identified in town, according to the press release.
