Former Governor Frank Murkowski visited Petersburg on Sept. 22 to give a presentation on the "deterioration of transportation in Southeast, Alaska" where he discussed the impacts of the cruise industry, the current state of the Alaska Marine Highway System, and some ideas for improved transportation in the region. He talked about the prospect of extending the Inter-Island Ferry, which runs between Hollis and Ketchikan, to include Petersburg and Wrangell, the 2004 Southeast Alaska Transportation Plan, and potentially creating transportation corridors on U.S. Forest Service land.
