The M/V Columbia on its way northbound through the Wrangell Narrows breaks through last Friday's winter storm that brought heaps of snow to Southeast. Petersburg was hit with 28.8 inches of snow from Feb. 23-28 according to the National Weather Service. Last Saturday's 19 inches of snow was the highest single-day total seen this winter and it set a new record for the most snowfall on Feb. 25 of any year. The heavy snow over the last week also brought the total accumulated snowfall during this winter up to 73.9 inches. The storm continued earlier this week and on Wednesday the Petersburg School District let students out early due to snowfall and expected rain.
