August 24, 1923 – Pioneering the way for direct shipment of canned salmon from Alaskan ports to the eastern coast of the United States via the Panama Canal, the big steamer Commercial Traveler was in Petersburg this week loading 25,000 cases of salmon from Petersburg Packing Company. She also landed 15,000 cases of empties for the same concern.
