Fourteen citizen scientists were out in the field counting birds on Mitkof Island and nine more watched bird feeders on Saturday, Dec. 16 for the annual Christmas Bird Count. The unofficial tally indicates that birders located 62 species on the island, including this photogenic Common Redpoll observed during the count by Brad Hunter.
