Obituary: Marcia Lynn Hanson, 67

Marcia Lynn Hanson peacefully passed away on July 12, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Marcia was born on July 17, 1956, in Petersburg, Alaska, to Christopher and Lucy Hanson. She was the oldest of three. Growing up in Petersburg Marcia enjoyed adventures with her many cousins, was on the Petersburg High School Drill Team, and liked to help out where she could, always happy to take on the important behind-the-scenes jobs.

She was an employee of Whitney Fidalgo Cannery, Petersburg Fisheries, Inc., Head Start and the Moose Lodge, but Marcia's favorite job was being a grandmother, mom, sister, aunt, cousin, niece and friend.

She had many passions, including beading, crocheting, knitting, and gathering native foods, but Marcia was most passionate about her relationships with her family and friends. She was always available with a shoulder to lean on and words of encouragement. Her warm smile and ready laughter will be missed.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, Christopher and Lucy Hanson; her brother, Christopher Hanson; her paternal grandparents, John and Selina Hanson; maternal grandparents, Helen and Archie Salpid; and a long, distinguished list of many uncles, aunties, cousins and friends.

She is survived by her brother, Tim Hanson, of Ketchikan; her sons, Jason Bates, Jeremy Hanson, and Matthew Davis, of Petersburg, Alaska; her daughter, Crystal Bates, of Friday Harbor, Washington; five grandchildren and many loving family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Petersburg Lutheran Church on September 14, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. with a potluck reception at the John Hanson Memorial Hall immediately following the services.
