Obituary: Gordon Scott Olsen 11/12/1957-11/20/2024

Scott was a lifelong resident of Petersburg AK. He loved the small town life and was very proud to call Petersburg his home. A commercial fisherman from the time he was a young man in high school until he passed. Scott graduated from Petersburg High School in 1976.

Scott enjoyed traveling in the winter. Hawaii, Mexico and Las Vegas were favorites. A January trip to Las Vegas to play in the annual "Moose International Texas Holdem Tournament" became an annual favorite. Upward of a thousand card players would enter each year. Multiple tables with nine or ten players at each. You could always pick out the table Scott was playing on. It was the table with all the laughter and smiling card players (except for the dealer). Scott made new friends wherever he went.

Scott was a man that loved his sweets. On trips he would often case out bakeries. He would slowly walk by the window back and forth a couple times just looking and drooling as he eyeballed all the goodies. He would ponder and dream the night away thinking about his sugar goodies and the next day he would go in for his long awaited purchase of sweet goodies.

He always looked forward to talking with everyone he would run into at the grocery store or in town. After a conversation with Scott you always walked away with a smile on your face! His smile, laugh, and sense of humor were infectious. He was generous and thoughtful, often sharing his seafood with family and friends.

Scott was a huge animal lover, especially his cat Henry. I'm sure Scott is probably sitting in his chair with Henry purring on his lap smiling down on all of us. Look up and give Scottie a big smile when you think of him.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring at Blind Slough.

Nice, well written brief story of Scott Olsen. Frankly I was shocked, after logging onto the Pilot to read of his passing. And you’re right, while cutting his hair, which was always a pleasure, he had me laughing and learning more about the town he grew up in. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
